Q: How do you tell an introverted computer scientist from an extroverted computer scientist?
A: An extroverted computer scientist looks at your shoes when he talks to you.
This is one of the classic jokes about computer scientists. Programmers have already understood where to laugh? For those who are scratching their heads, this joke is about how shy a programmer can be. (introverted programmers are so shy that they look at their own shoes while talking to you)
However, it has always seemed to me as if this joke is not all about the shyness of a programmer.
There is the other side of the coin. In this article, I will talk about that side.
With the advent of the computer era, many things have changed in the modern world. The way we talk, the way we work, the way how we look at the world and lots of other things have changed. These changes, bad or good, quite often have a negative impact on our health. A programmer sitting all day long in front of a computer tapping keys, clicking a mouse button is prone to acquire musculoskeletal disorders.
What is musculoskeletal disorder?
"Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are injuries or pain in the joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves, tendons, and structures that support limbs, neck and back. MSDs can arise from a sudden exertion (e.g., lifting a heavy object), or they can arise from making the same motions repeatedly repetitive strain, or from repeated exposure to force, vibration, or awkward posture." ,- Wikipedia defines musculoskletal disorder. Awkward posture that programmers find themselves in is the the main reason for MSDs. Hunching over a computer for long hours causes a back pain and then a neck pain.
MSDs result in poor muscle balance, poor flexibility, improper spinal alignment. MSDs are a global healthcare problem, which is the second leading cause of disability. For instance, in the United states alone, 16 million strains and sprains were recorded and treated in 2004. MSDs is not a cheaply treated disorder. in 2004, and the total cost for treating MSDs is estimated to be more than $125 billion per year. (Gallagher, Sean; Heberger, John R. (2013-02-01). "Examining the Interaction of Force and Repetition on Musculoskeletal Disorder Risk A Systematic Literature Review".)
How to prevent MSDs?/How to relieve back pain?
Encouraging the proper use of ergonomics in the working environment is the key factor in preventing MSDs. Ergonomics is applying user-friendly designs in your workplace. For example, a user-friendly chair, keyboard, desk, etc. Your ergonomic chair means a lot in saving you from MSDs. It should be comfortable, help to build a healthier core, align the spine, relieve back pain and stiffness, boost energy levels and increase productivity with an active body and a focused and engaged mind.
Where to find best ergonomic chair?
At the end of the post you can find some bestselling ergonomic chair results from Amazon. You can choose any of these depending on your needs. What I would personally recommend to you is this one because it is the very chair to help you to relieve your back and neck pain with its cool features.

My programmer friend, I think it is time for you to prove that the joke is already history and not effective anymore. I wish you an infinite abundance of health, wealth and happiness. Share it with your friends.
